Tango 9 and the Tango Collection

Last Thursday in Melbourne two Tangos were launched. The Tango Collection, published by Allen & Unwin, and Tango #9, published by Cardigan Comics. It was a really good night.

The Tango Collection is available at all good bookstores in Australia and New Zealand right now, as well as amazon.com. If your bookstore doesn't have it, ask them to order it. The ISBN is 9781742371436. This book is a great summary of the past eight issues the romance comics anthology Tango.

Tango #9: Love and War is the latest volume of said anthology, published by Bernard Caleo. Get a copy from Cardigan Comics. Tango #9 is also available from a few bookstores in Melbourne, such as Readings. I've been in Tango since #4, and it really does keep getting better. Check it out! The next Tango, Love & Music, will come out in 2011.

Read about the launch here or here.

Books Launch: The Tango Collection & Tango #9

The Tango launch party has become an annual fixture on the Melbourne comics calendar. I blogged about the launch of Tango #8 last year. I wasn't able to attend that time, but this year I will, and I'm looking forward to it. It's a bit of a special event this year. Firstly, it's the launch of Tango #9: Love & War. Left is a panel from the story I submitted for it. Secondly, the evening is also the official launch of Allen & Unwin's The Tango Collection, a book comprised of comics from the previous eight issues of Tango. It's available at Amazon, and from mid-December will be widely available at bookshops in Australia. The editor of both is Bernard Caleo. If you are in Melbourne, or near enough to attend, come to the launch!

When: Thursday, 10th December 2009, from 6:30pm. There will be speeches and maybe a song or two at around 7:30pm.

Where: Dante's, 150-156 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. Go to Dante's 'Upstairs Gallery'. Entry is from the Napier St. entrance.

Food is provided, but get your drinks at the bar. Both books will be on sale that night. The Tango Collection, a 248pp paperback book, will cost AUD$35, and the 352pp Tango #9 will cost AUD$20. That's a launch-only price; the price will rise to $25 after the night.

It'll be a great evening. I hope to see you there!

Tiger and Bear in the Korea Herald

The Korea Herald has started running weeky Tiger & Bear comic strips. Click here to see the first four strips, along with an article about the Tiger & Bear project. The comics also continue to appear at The One One Four, as well as the monthly Daegu Pockets magazine.

Tiger and Bear

A comic I drew has been featured on the Korean English-language site, The One One Four. Click hence to read it!

It's about these two animals, which are quite important in Korean mythology. The idea is currently being explored by a pair of English performance artists, and the comics are a part of that. This article contains more information about the performance art side of it, and this video will give more of a taste.

They are still looking for strips, so if you are interested, go to Daegu Pockets, the website of the magazine, for more details.

Kinokuniya Book Launch: Scarygirl

Kinokuniya Bookstore in Sydney, a great friend of comics, is having a launch party for the new original graphic novel by fellow Australian Nathan Jurevicus, at 6:30pm on October 29, 2009. The book is called Scarygirl, and it's published by the Australian publisher Allen & Unwin, who have already published graphic novels by my compatriots Bruce Mutard and Nicki Greenberg, and will soon publish The Tango Collection. I'd go myself, but unfortunately I'm not in Sydney at the moment!

I think it will be a fun, interesting event. Find more details about the launch and the book here.

Yuck! #2

Milk Shadow Books has launched the second in their Yuck! series. It's a small anthology of stories that are horrifying, gross, disgusting and/or inappropriate. It's edited by Mr. Slime, also known as James Andre. It can be purchased from various locations in Melbourne, or from the Milk Shadow website.

If you have any comics which are inappropriate, gross, horrifying, or just comics which made you think, 'Hmm, I don't know if I want people to actually see this," then please get in touch with Mr. Slime and see what he thinks of it. The deadline for submissions for Issue #3 of Yuck! is December 14th.
